There are other sneaky ways to get your best deals in too. These are based on some research, not personal experience. But, we have heard there is something to it! If you purchase your ticket on Tuesdays it's the cheapest. According to a travel expert this is because "apparently...airlines announc[e] deals on Monday evenings. By Tuesday at noon, other airlines are trying to match those deals." Let us know if you try it, we’d love to hear how that works for you! Also, budget airlines like Norwegian Air fly directly from major airports straight into Europe! Which is a super convenient trip with no connecting flights or annoying layovers.
ALSO, we're so excited we have a Summer Collection launching soon and this is one of our travel inspired designs! Choose Adventure Always! Keep an eye out when it hits the site!
After years of travel, I have finally mastered the art of a light carry on. A (large-ish) purse and a C+C tote bag! I use the C+C tote bag to carry my laptop in a case and any extra cords and maybe a book! We have so many cute ones, but these two totes are travel inspired and therefore could not be more PERFECT!

I use a mix of higher end makeup and drug store brands! Use whatever you like, these are just some guidelines for the colors and tools to achieve the look. Foundation, Concealer, Powder, Eyebrow Gel, Bronzer, Peachy Blush, Champagne/White Highlighter, Rose Gold Eyeshadow, Black Pencil Eyeliner, Eyelash Curler, Mascara, Mauve/Pink Lipstick and Shiny Lipgloss!
I like to do a subtle contour (nothing crazy!) Add bronze to your cheeks, sides of your nose, and on the forehead near the hairline. Then add the peachy blush color to the apples of your cheeks. Next, add a little highlight to your cheeks, nose (on the ball of your nose and down the top part of the bridge) and a little above your top lip.
*Beauty Secret* Using Highlighter in your inner corners makes you look more awake and gives your eye a more open look. And highlighter under your brow makes your brow appear higher and more raised.
Good luck, loves! This has been a fun experience to put together a look!

]]>Coco - 2017
OK, it’s animated. We’re adults. Get over it. Coco was the cutest movie about Miguel, a little boy from Mexico finding out about his family’s roots and ties to music as he enters the Land of the Dead on the Day of the Dead. It has amazing graphics, beautiful music and culturally rich allegories.
The Dark Knight - 2008
This is going pretty far back. The last film Heath Ledger worked on… RIP. The acting was amazing. Maybe the world’s best villain portrayal. The hand done special effects and underlining the world’s vulnerability to dark forces gave us a very grim realism… sometimes creepy, colorful chaos makes for really good entertainment.
A Star is Born - 2018
Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper. Enough said… really. The soundtrack alone. But, this film is such a powerful story about once in a lifetime love, fame and struggle with drug abuse. Bring your tissues. This is not a lighthearted flick. But 1,000% worth a watch.
The Secret Life of Walter Mitty - 2014
Normally Ben Stiller is a slapstick comedian, but in this sweet film, he is an unassuming guy who hasn’t done too much until his job launches him into an unexpected adventure of a lifetime. If you want to be inspired to dare to do big things, be spontaneous and fall in love with travel. This is for you. Not only is the story slightly poignant and surprising, the cinematography and graphic choices are top notch.
The Martian - 2015
How often has a story about Man vs. Nature failed to make for a good story? An astronaut gets stranded on Mars after his team believe him to be dead. It’s like the stuff of nightmares. But, somehow, this flick is inspiring and demonstrates the resourcefulness and stamina of a human nature. Prepare for some white knuckles and deep breaths.
La La Land - 2016
It’s the story of dreamers. An aspiring actress and a jazz musician fall in love in LA. Ok, we’re not biased just because it takes place in our home city… it’s truly such a sweet story. Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone are fantastic. The dance and song numbers are so well done, even people who aren’t fans of musicals could get into it.
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind - 2004
If you’ve ever been in love and had your heartbroken, you know there’s a point, when you’re hurting so bad you wonder if the whole thing was worth it. In this unlikely movie, there is a business that will erase a person from your memory. Only with Jim Carey and Kate Winslet, it’s a little harder than with the average person. They keep finding each other. Again and again. It’s a dark romance, but sweet in it’s own right.
Lion - 2016
A five year old Indian boy gets lost on the streets of Calcutta thousands of miles from home. Years later he is adopted by an Australian family and this is the story of him finding his family. It’s beyond heart wrenching and a beautiful story of the human need to understand where we come from.
Catfish - 2010
This was the beginning of understanding what an online impersonator actually is. The psychology behind it and the phenomenon that has become a household verb known as “Catfishing”. New Shulman is a New York photographer and begins an online relationship with a girl named Megan. Even though many inconsistencies arise, Nev continues his relationship with her and this film documents his road trip to meet her in person. Because it was one of the first of it’s kind, Catfish is a fascinating trail of something that happens to people all the time. Only then, there was no name for it. If you’re into thrilling, indie films, take a look at this one.
Breakfast at Tiffany’s - 1961
Last, but certainly not least, Audrey Hepburn’s classic, Breakfast and Tiffany’s. At a fast glance, it’s just a quick romantic film. But, really it is so much more. It is the story of a woman finding herself slowly and loving herself enough to allow herself to be loved by someone else. The costumes are beautifully 60’s and Audrey is a doll as always. Perfect for a Sunday morning over coffee and croissants.
We have endless favorites…. But these ten are a good start for ALL genres! We hope you enjoy reading about these ones and are inspired to have a few movie nights on your own!

Going into the New Year, there are a few things that have been underlying themes. These aren’t RESOLUTIONS, but INTENTIONS to set as we receive another 365 chances.
1. Creating boundaries in work and personal life.
Who here struggles with that one? It can be really tough! You answer emails after 9 PM, you’re having stress dreams, you answer 1 second after you receive any messages. These are signs that you don’t have enough work life balance boundaries. Secondly, you will find out really quickly how much people respect you when you place a boundary on relationships of any kind. But, the important thing here is to realize that people don’t know what your boundaries are until you tell them. You then give them to the chance to honor that or pull the plug. This could also include returning messages to friends and loved ones. It might involve someone being hurt about not hearing about something first. You don’t owe anyone your energy or time. That’s important to realize. But, if you don’t set that line early on, other people will define that for you.
2. Pouring into Friendships and Relationships
Who you have in your corner is so important. When you are working long hours alone, to know there are people supporting you and cheering you on can make the ultimate difference. The community you create is the soft place to land when the bottom falls out of your world. This type of investment can be as little or as big as you are able. When you think of someone, text them. “Hey, I was thinking of you this morning, I hope you’re doing awesome.” And don’t be anxious about continuing a back and forth. I know I get all the good feelings and vibes when I get those kinds of texts. We all have busy schedules, so the important aspect of adult friendships is to really be intentional about setting a time. Look at your calendar and see when works. We know that these relationships are what make the things we do for work, worth it. And to recharge, pour out and receive also makes us better at what we do.
3. Less Screen Time
Recently, I was overseas and I didn’t have the opportunity to have WiFi all the time. And a crazy thing happened… I stopped checking my phone. I KNOW. Seems crazy, right? And guess what? I didn’t die from not seeing an update or an email. I was more intentional about my online time because I had to be. It meant I used it for work and catching up with friends briefly. I think it has felt like freedom I didn’t know I was craving. It’s hard to do it in everyday life when accessibility is constant. Although this was a change that was made for me instead of by choice, it ended up being amazing & I was super grateful.
4. Finances
It’s a big one. We kinda want to look the other way and pretend it’s not happening. But, there it is… that big ugly word. Money. The same idea as the others goes for spending. To be intentional and aware of every purchase and every bill is a hassle--let’s just say it. But it’s the only way to really get a handle on what’s going on instead of being surprised at the end of every month when you’re coming up short. Also, if you subscribe to the philosophy of the law attraction, one thing we must put a stop to is believing that there is never enough for us. We have to change our narrative about money and our beliefs to receive all that is out there for us. If we’re stingy and scared and negative about money that’s how we feel about it and that’s the “vibe” we’re putting out there. But, if we’re open and happy and realize that the money will come and we continue to work hard because we love to make money and think of it intentionally that way. That’s a different story altogether!
We hope this small list will help you get your thoughts rolling on what you want to do with the rest of this month and all your opportunities for success in the New Year! Happy New Year, let's embrace 2019!
xoxo,
Dana Bortz

]]>You check your phone.
We make excuses—our alarms, our jobs, social media notifications… but the truth of the matter is… most of us are (at least a little) addicted to our phones.
Addicted seems like a super strong word. Maybe a little aggressive for the seemingly innocent little rectangle that joins you in bed every night!
The second we wake up… in this habit, we allow someone else’s thoughts and day affect ours. Before our feet even HIT the floor, we’ve given our first thoughts and moments to someone else. In recent studies, we’ve even found out that social media can contribute to anxiety and depression and of course, the obvious comparison game and FOMO.
There is even some research that indicates that every time we get a “like” or “comment” or even see something we like online, our brain releases dopamine (which is the feel good hormone). We want more. So, it only stands to reason, the algorithms are created to keep us online as long as possible. But unfortunately, as quickly as we feel good, when that engagement is gone, we are sent into a downward spiral.
Now that you know the facts… this is not to say that there isn’t some good things about social media! Small businesses like ours rely on being online! To create a community, as we have, via social media is a big part of that! So that being said, this is meant to be an encouragement to guard our mind and heart be intentional about our screen time. Let’s face it, it’s not realistic to cut it out all together, and we wouldn’t want to! The good stuff is WONDERFUL! We love the one on one connection, sharing life experiences and finding like minded people—that part rocks!
One of the most helpful things we found to create healthy boundaries is to “book end” your days. Which means, maybe the first hour when you wake up, you don’t allow yourself to reach for your phone. You meditate, you eat breakfast, you listen to music, you give your eyes and soul a little break before you jump right in. And then, at the end of the day, you unplug yourself the hour before you go to bed. So the blue lit screen isn’t sending you off the dreamland. You have "book end-ed" your day.
Our thoughts with this were… why not try to see how it makes you feel? We’ve only heard very positive things about this practice. And let’s say, if it ended up not working, no harm, no foul! But! if it did, wouldn’t it be great to feel a little less tethered and free? To return a bit to the analog ways? Being present is a novelty these days. Even unique. Technology is efficient and convenient, but it was never meant to replace actual experiences or become more important than them. We hope we can all remember that as we move forward more intentionally with our screen time and how we engage online.

We need to be prepared or it’s already too late! Have you had a bout of anxiety or funk overcome you and it just kicks you while you’re down? It’s all you can do just do what you have to do, forget about trying to find positive healthy ways to get out of it.
Whether the mood is seasonal, clinical or situational, there are things that will help you steer clear or combat this when it does arrive.
We’ve compiled a list of 20 of our favorites that have worked for us from various sources from the wonderful world wide web… <3 (Not in order of importance)
We hope you can glean some wisdom from this list. Maybe not all of them will work for you! But, there are some good ideas to start with for feeling better during the dark days.
Here’s to all the best days & falling in love with life. You are so sparkly and deserve all the best things in the world. Believe that.

To jumpstart your new found excuse for making everything around you BEAUTIFUL… we thought a little tutorial on how to create a gorgeous, floral arrangement was so apropos. PLUS, there are so many benefits to having flowers and plants in the house! Because they give off oxygen, the presence of plants help with concentration and memory. In addition, certain floral scents can even lower stress levels! Sign us up!
What You Will Need:
-Scissors
-A Basket
(Could be something else if you want!)
-Various sized flowers + greenery
(You’ll want to choose a variety of sizes, this will help add dimension to your arrangement.)
-A piece of fabric or cloth
1) Lay out all your florals and greenery. Just take a mental note of everything you have.
2) Next, trim all of the stems at about a 45 degree angle.
3) Drape your piece of fabric over the front of the basket. The amount hanging in the front will depend on how big your piece of fabric is. If you have a larger piece you can drape in the back and let the middle sag to the bottom of the basket and the other end can hang in the front. If it’s a smaller piece, you can just drape over the front edge and let the bottom end dangle into the basket.
4) Start with your larger leafy, green pieces, these will serve as a base. Place these toward the back and spread them out as evenly as possible. You can use a little bit of an angle and let them lean on the back of the basket. Work your way around the basket and as you get to the front, use shorter pieces or angle them a little more sharply so they appear shorter. Don’t be afraid to trim as you go also! If a piece is bugging you, cut it!
5) Next, using your smaller blooms, start filling in the middle. Get creative! There’s no right or wrong way and the good news is, you can always adjust this as you go.
6) Then, after you’re satisfied with the overall fullness, now it’s time for the bigger flowers! Place them sporadically throughout the entire basket and concentrate them in the back so none of them cover the smaller florals in the front.
7) Viola! Your gorgeous arrangement is complete!
Now that we have science backing us up on our pursuit for pretty...we are so excited to make our space more BEAUTIFUL! I mean, if only just for the sake of our health, right? ;)

Dana Bortz

]]>It seems like the word “self care” has been on everyone’s lips lately. You can easily find hundreds of blog posts, Instagram photos, Pinterest how-to’s and even videos on the topic. In a world that is moving so fast, turn overs are quicker than ever and our attention is being pulled every which way at every second of the day... I think we’ve finally realized that we can’t keep this up! We can’t sustainably live without any balance.
It’s so important that we take care of ourselves first and foremost so that we can put our entire hearts and our best effort into all other areas of our lives. This could look different for every person! Some might need to make sure they draw the lines in their work life and their self care might be sitting by themselves in the quiet and recharging that way. Others might need to take a hike and get some fresh air. Some might choose to disconnect from social media for a digital detox or even an actual detox! Putting on some soul soothing music and doing a face mask might be yours! All of these are forms of self care. No one knows the best one for you except for you! Usually, you’ll find out what works for you the best just by trying things out!
It’s also helpful to note that self care isn’t always fun. What?! I know... Sometimes I think it’s portrayed as doing whatever you want to do, and to an extent it is... however, with that mindset, it’s easy to use “self care” as an excuse to make poor choices. The goal is to make ourselves feel better overall, not just in the moment. We are giving ourselves room to listen to what our bodies, hearts and minds need. But, just like working out and eating healthy isn’t always FUN, it’s necessary and we feel the results after we make the right, sometimes hard, decisions.

You can do all the practical things you should be doing, and we, here are Cotton and Canvas, could join the masses with a list of self care suggestions for you, but the BEST advice we can offer to you is to LOVE yourself unconditionally. Give yourself all the grace when things aren’t going like you want or planned. All the rest of the stuff falls into place when you have the squared away. The balance we all are looking for lies in that! When we are there, we can love others from a place of abundance and when we have that balanced, we can do the best we’ve ever done at our jobs, with our families, with strangers, with our creativity—the list is endless!
Go be the best, balanced, loved human you can be!

]]>Our table runners and placemats are timeless and can be used year after year! After choosing your color scheme, you'll then need to decide on the dinnerware.
Black is making a big appearance in Christmas styling this year and these table settings show off how elegant a hint of black can look.
Add a personalized touch to each table setting. Our favor bags are our absolute favorite little gift to give. Just place festive cookies or candies inside and VOILA!
The centerpieces! We always adore a gorgeous floral arrangement and not completely traditional. We simply love soft reds, whites, greenery and hints of pink!
Finally, make this year’s Christmas meal one to remember with great food, drink, company and lots of smile and laughter!
]]>Decking out our homes with holiday décor, seeing houses lit up after dark, the smell of cinnamon apples, peppermint and Christmas tree pines – OH MY! We can’t imagine anything else making us feel this warm and happy inside! Can you?
As we sit here listening to ‘Baby, It’s Cold Outside,’ we want to truly embrace this holiday season by sharing our 12 days of Christmas bucket list!
1. Visit a Christmas Tree Farm
First grab a yummy hot chocolate or latte then visit your local Christmas tree farm to pick and cut down your own tree! Sounds exciting, right?
2. Purchase a New Ornament
Each year it's a tradition to get a new unique ornament for our tree. Not just any cute ornament, but one that reflects on the best part of your year!
3. Attend a Festival of Lights
Spend an evening out with friends or family while enjoying the scenery of lights. Most of these festivals have games, food, and rides. Another fun option is to drive around town, listing to Christmas music {of course} to find a few neighborhoods full of beautiful lights!
4. Bake Chocolate Chip Cookies {for Santa, obviously}
This is the time to pull out the old family book of recipes and try one out. Bake alone with a glass of wine or make it a baking party.
5. Binge Watch a Christmas Movie {or two or three}
During the holiday season, the Hallmark channel is a win win! If we had to choose a favorite Christmas movie, Home Alone is a close winner.
6. Give Back to Your Local Community
The holidays are a great time to reach out and help those who aren't as fortunate by donating toys to a gift drive or food to a local food drive. Picking out a special gift for someone in need is a great way to teach younger family members about the spirit of giving. You get to feel humble in knowing you may change someone's life for better.
7. Play in the Snow
Grab your beanie and mittens and plan a day in the snow! Snow ball fights or snow angels? Either way, a snow day is mandatory this holiday season!
8. Send Holiday Cards
From family photos, to funny, to cute, holiday cards are so much fun to give and receive! Call us old fashion, but receiving a holiday card in the mail not only puts a smile on our face but also helps with decorating the mantel.
9. Hang Stockings
Stocking stuffers are the most favorable gifts! You can customize stockings for the whole family {even your pets}. The cutest gifts are always found inside the stockings!
10. Go Out To Shop!
We know, online shopping is the way to go! BUT! You must go out in all the madness, at least once to feel and see the holiday craziness that is going on beyond our computers. (we're still working on this one -- haha)
P.S. You can click any image to shop our products!

]]>We created this beautiful Thanksgiving dinner tablescape with all of our most favorite holiday elements in mind. For simplicity, we kept the overall color scheme neutral - incorporating golds, greens, grey and a pop of black!
First, we started off with one of our adorable pumpkin table runners. When creating your own, you'll have over 10 different styles and designs to choose from!
To create a modern fall centerpiece, we built our base with tons of greens, added in a few florals and lastly, sprinkled in some fruits to add pops of color! How cute do these blackberries and pears look?!
Once all the plates and flatware (oh and the copper mule mugs, of course) were laid out, we started placing the final touches. What really brought this table together were the wine bags! Simple and unique, these cute little bags are the perfect favors for your guests!
For a more classic Thanksgiving dinner table, we recommend using gold or maroon charger plates. If using charger plates, our napkins and placemats are a great alternative to a table runner.
We'd love to hear how you're decorating your Thanksgiving table this year! Comment below <3
